Vertiv boosts CoolPhase cooling range for EMEA data hubs

Thu, 22nd Jan 2026

Vertiv has expanded its CoolPhase Perimeter PAM air-cooled perimeter cooling range for small, medium and edge data centre sites across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The update adds new cooling system ratings and introduces the CoolPhase Condenser. Vertiv said the expanded range is available across the region.

Vertiv positioned the product line as a direct expansion perimeter cooling system for data halls and edge facilities. The company said the latest models focus on energy use and refrigerant compliance requirements in the European Union.

Economiser models

The CoolPhase Perimeter PAM range now includes the EconoPhase Pumped Refrigerant Economizer. Vertiv said it integrates with the CoolPhase Condenser system.

Vertiv described the EconoPhase technology as a pumped refrigerant circuit. The company said it enhances free-cooling and system reliability. Vertiv said the circuit runs at lower power than traditional compressors and reduces space requirements.

In perimeter cooling setups, equipment typically sits at the edge of the white space and pushes conditioned air into the data hall. The approach remains common in retrofit projects and facilities with constrained plant room layouts.

Refrigerant choice

Vertiv said the CoolPhase Perimeter PAM range uses R-513A refrigerant. The company said R-513A has a 70% lower Global Warming Potential than R-410A.

Vertiv also said R-513A presents non-flammability and low toxicity risks. The company linked this to compliance with the EU F-Gas Regulation 2024/573.

The EU's updated F-Gas rules tighten controls on fluorinated greenhouse gases, including phasedown measures and restrictions that affect refrigerant selection for cooling systems sold in the region. Suppliers to data centre operators have increasingly emphasised lower-GWP options in response.

"With this latest addition to the Vertiv CoolPhase Perimeter PAM range, we're making our direct expansion offering more flexible while addressing two critical challenges faced by data centre operators today: environmental compliance and operational efficiency," said Sam Bainborough, VP Thermal Management, EMEA, Vertiv.

"The new air-cooled models boost free-cooling capabilities to lower PUE, demonstrating our commitment to providing energy-efficient and environmentally responsible solutions that don't compromise on performance," said Bainborough.

Control and components

Vertiv said the range includes variable speed compressors and staged coil. The company also highlighted its patented filter technology.

Vertiv said the system integrates with CoolPhase Condenser units through Liebert iCOM control. The company described the approach as a single system that manages performance and efficiency. Vertiv said it also manages flexibility.

Operators in the colocation, enterprise and edge segments have faced rising scrutiny on operational energy and emissions reporting. Cooling systems represent a significant share of data centre energy consumption, particularly in smaller facilities with limited opportunities for waste heat projects or centralised chilled-water plant upgrades.

Service coverage

Vertiv said the CoolPhase Perimeter PAM range sits within its broader thermal product portfolio. The company said its global service organisation supports the equipment lifecycle, from design and commissioning through ongoing optimisation.

The expansion comes as data centre developers add smaller sites closer to users and networks. Those deployments often prioritise footprint, installation complexity and the ability to operate across varied climates. Vertiv said its latest perimeter cooling update targets those requirements across EMEA.
