Veeam expands data platform with Oracle Linux KVM support
Tue, 23rd Apr 2024

Veeam, a data protection and ransomware recovery firm, has recently expanded its Veeam Data Platform to include support for host-based backups of VMs operating on Oracle Linux KVM hypervisor. This development is in line with shifting dynamics in cloud landscapes and virtualisation and also aims to address customers' growing demand for data freedom.

The extension of Oracle Linux Virtualisation Manager support within the Veeam Data Platform offers Veeam's 450,000-strong customer base increased freedom in choosing the platforms that best suit their needs while providing dependable data management, security and protection. Alongside Oracle Linux KVM hypervisor, the platform also integrates with other virtualisation platforms like VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Red Hat Virtualisation, and Red Hat OpenShift.

John Jester, CRO at Veeam, stated, “In talking with customers, the topic of data freedom is always high on their list. Veeam has always been committed to empowering customers with choice. That’s why we give customers peace of mind across all the platforms and systems they’re using, from the cloud to on-premises and often hybrid. Introducing support for Oracle Linux Virtualisation Manager further expands our unparalleled freedom of choice in virtualisation, empowering businesses to select and migrate to the platforms that best suit their needs while maintaining seamless data management, security and protection."

The added support for Oracle Linux Virtualisation Manager allows users to achieve full-scale protection while enhancing other elements like security and compliant backup lifecycle management. Veeam's platform ensures multi-platform compatibility, offering users the ability to operate across a multitude of virtualisation platforms and clouds such as VMware vSphere, VMware Cloud Director, Microsoft Hyper-V, Microsoft Azure Stack HCI, Amazon AWS, Nutanix AHV, Red Hat Virtualisation, Google Cloud, and others.

Further, through Veeam's solution, users can now select and seamlessly migrate from one virtualisation platform to another, aligning with their unique requirements without compromising on data management capabilities. These benefits are delivered via a completely portable data format, an outcome of Veeam's dedication to promoting data mobility.

Veeam's platform also ensures secure data protection by incorporating immutable backup and instant recovery capabilities. Thus, crucial data is assured of security and availability regardless of the virtualisation platform. This solution safeguards against potential threats and disruptions, ensuring businesses' continuous operation.

John Annand, Director of Infrastructure at Info-Tech Research Group, observed that the new Veeam for Oracle Linux Virtualisation Manager "further enables the enterprise to put their workloads where it makes the most business sense rather than where it is easiest for I&O to secure and protect their data.” With Veeam, users, without having to learn new tools or procure new hardware, can spend more time driving business initiatives rather than focusing on managing backups.

Veeam's commitment to promoting freedom of choice among varied organisations in today's evolving world of virtualisation is redefined with its new Oracle Linux KVM support, which is available now.
