Tony Ford appointed as Sales Director at Verne data centres

Wed, 15th May 2024

Verne has appointed Tony Ford, a veteran of enterprise sales, to fill the role of Sales Director. Ford brings with him more than twenty years of experience in similar roles, notably at Colt – a leading networking solutions provider where he has served as Account Director since 2016. He will work from Verne's London location and focus on the company's sustainable data centre services.

The appointment comes at a time when there is escalating demand for data centre services that have a minimal environmental impact. Ford's new role will involve leveraging this burgeoning demand, particularly from high-intensity compute users such as large enterprises. He will guide organisations in migrating their compute infrastructure to the Nordics. This region is known for its access to renewable energy sources, which significantly reduces both the carbon footprint and the cost of data centre operations.

Ford has an illustrious career in enterprise sales, having gained extensive experience serving as Account Director for Colt Data Centre Services, where he worked closely with large enterprise clients. His career, which kick-started at the carrier - KPNQwest, has enabled him to develop a thorough understanding of the evolving needs of the market. He has also been an integral part of the Colt Technology Services team.

Chief Sales Officer at Verne, Nick Dale, expressed his enthusiasm about the new appointment, stating “It’s fantastic to welcome Tony to the team; his vast experience of providing tailored solutions to some of the world’s largest companies is the perfect fit for Verne and will be invaluable as an increasing number of organisations look for more sustainable locations to host their operations.”

In response to his appointment, Ford reflected on the changing nature of the data centre industry, particularly the shifting preferences towards locations that provide access to sustainable energy sources. “Data centre demand has changed beyond belief over the last few years, with more and more organisations looking to the Nordics because of its access to cleaner, more predictably-priced energy supplies – especially when compared to the traditional metropolitan data centre markets,” he noted. “Verne has already built a phenomenally successful business in Iceland and Finland, and I’m looking forward to helping it capitalise on this growing interest and enabling clients to seamlessly migrate their operations to more optimised locations.”

Verne stands as a leading name in the sphere of sustainable data centre solutions, helping organisations cost-effectively bolster their digital infrastructure whilst reducing their environmental impact. The company has four Nordic data centres – situated in Iceland and Finland – which are entirely reliant on predictably-priced, 100 percent renewable energy. Verne’s hyper-connected central London data centre boasts of optimal location benefits, including superb connectivity and low latency for sensitive applications.
