Ntt Data launches AI agent for multivendor IT estates

NTT DATA has launched a Software Defined Infrastructure Services Agent for enterprise infrastructure, designed to work across multivendor IT environments.

The service sits within its Software Defined Infrastructure offering and lets IT teams interact with infrastructure through natural language prompts. It is intended to address operational problems caused by fragmented legacy systems, siloed tools and manual processes.

The agent acts as an orchestrator, triggering other agents in the background across networking, hybrid data centre, cybersecurity and digital workplace environments. It also brings sustainability data into the same view, allowing organisations to monitor the environmental impact of their infrastructure estates alongside operational information.

According to NTT DATA, the system uses live telemetry, historical context and policy controls to support actions across infrastructure while keeping human oversight in place. The goal is to reduce reliance on ticket-based processes and give IT teams faster access to information and recommended actions.

AI operations

The launch comes as many large companies expand their use of AI while continuing to run IT estates made up of equipment and software from multiple vendors. Those environments often require separate management tools, which can slow decision-making and make it harder to maintain a consistent operating model.

NTT DATA is positioning the service as a way to manage that complexity through a conversational interface layered over existing infrastructure operations. Rather than limiting support to a single manufacturer's environment, it is built for mixed estates spanning several technology suppliers.

That multivendor approach was highlighted by Chris Barnard, Vice President at IDC.

"Traditional infrastructure services are increasingly out of step with the demands of an AI-driven enterprise," Barnard said. "NTT DATA is differentiating itself through an innovative-first multivendor agentic service experience. Its AI-first approach enables infrastructure leaders to break out of traditional maintenance models and focus on outcomes at scale."

Market push

NTT DATA linked the launch to broader changes in enterprise AI spending, citing findings from its Global AI Report: A Playbook for AI Leaders. The report found that 34.5% of respondents were investing in rebuilding core applications with embedded AI rather than relying on add-on features.

That trend suggests companies are putting more money into the underlying systems needed to run AI at scale, including infrastructure, governance and operational processes. In that context, suppliers are trying to show that AI tools can move beyond application-level assistants and become part of how core IT environments are managed.

For NTT DATA, the announcement expands its infrastructure services business by adding what it describes as an agentic layer over day-to-day operations. It says the system can provide real-time visibility, explainable AI decisions and insights tailored to different roles within an IT organisation.

Dilip Kumar, Global Head of Infrastructure Solutions at NTT DATA, said the company sees infrastructure and service automation becoming more closely tied to broader business objectives.

"As organisations accelerate AI adoption, a secure, enterprise-grade infrastructure foundation combined with conversational agentic service experience becomes a strategic business differentiator," Kumar said. "Our agentic SDI Services enable enterprises to move beyond 'lights on' operations and turn infrastructure performance into measurable outcomes."

Operational focus

The service is aimed at large-scale infrastructure estates where operational teams must govern availability, utilisation and service performance across several domains at once. By combining signals from multiple systems, it is intended to help teams identify issues earlier and resolve them with less manual intervention.

NTT DATA also described the service as a form of digital twin for key IT operational roles, suggesting it is meant to mirror some of the reasoning and coordination work normally carried out by infrastructure staff. The emphasis, however, remains on assisted decision-making rather than fully autonomous control, with policy guardrails and human approval built into the operating model.

NTT DATA is part of the wider NTT Group and says it serves 75% of the Fortune Global 100. The group describes itself as a business and technology services provider with annual revenue of more than USD $30 billion, spanning AI, cloud, security, connectivity, data centres and application services.

The new infrastructure agent adds to a growing market for AI-led IT operations tools, particularly those aimed at unifying management across mixed vendor estates while keeping control in human hands.
