LiquidStack has announced the launch of its CDU-1MW, a new Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) designed for universal compatibility with direct-to-chip (DTC) liquid cooling solutions in data centres. The system is now ready for global shipment.
The CDU-1MW, with a 1,350kW cooling capacity, aims to address the increasing demand for standardised, DTC-optimised CDUs, especially as the adoption of liquid cooling in data centres grows. This new product provides high-performance cooling for advanced computing applications, including generative AI, large language models, and high-performance computing (HPC).
Joe Capes, CEO of LiquidStack, remarked, "With a singular focus on liquid cooling, we deliver unparalleled expertise and innovation, providing the most advanced solutions, such as the CDU-1MW, for data centres and high-performance computing environments." He added that the company's decade-long experience in designing, manufacturing, and servicing complex liquid-to-liquid heat exchange systems enables it to deliver products globally from its manufacturing facility in the U.S. and provide mission-critical service response in all major global markets.
The CDU-1MW is certified by ETL and CE and has undergone full-load testing by third-party entities. It is targeted towards hyperscalers, colocation service providers, and large-scale enterprises transitioning to hybrid cooling solutions.
The CDU-1MW is a high-performance cooling unit designed to enhance energy efficiency and reduce operational costs in high-performance computing environments. It boasts a cooling capacity of 1,350kW and uses advanced coolant distribution methods to ensure optimal temperature management. Built with a robust design, the CDU-1MW supports the latest AI chips and servers, guaranteeing durability and reliability in demanding settings. Its universal compatibility allows for seamless integration with multiple CDU vendors and diverse Direct-To-Chip (DTC) cooling systems, ensuring broad interoperability without proprietary limitations.
The CDU-1MW also focuses on energy optimisation, minimising energy consumption while maintaining superior cooling performance. Its user-friendly interface features a programmable logic controller (PLC) with intuitive controls and monitoring tools, simplifying management and oversight. Additionally, the unit includes N+1 redundancy with hot-swappable dual VSD pump operations, top and bottom stainless steel piping kits, and optional redundancy for critical components such as temperature, pressure, flow meters, and expansion tanks, ensuring continuous and reliable operation.
Nick Schweissguth, Global Director of Product Management at LiquidStack, noted, "Our exclusive commitment to liquid cooling ensures that LiquidStack products incorporate the latest advancements and best practices in cooling technology." He highlighted that the CDU-1MW is built to endure the demands of high-performance environments and enables large-scale data centre operators to mitigate risks in AI deployments through rapid integration with existing DTC systems.
This new product, manufactured in Carrollton, Texas, is part of LiquidStack's extensive portfolio, with additional CDU solutions expected in 2025. The company's range of liquid cooling products also includes single-phase and two-phase immersion cooling solutions, as well as MacroModular and MicroModular prefabricated data centres.
