atNorth appoints Jürgen Larsson as Director of Hyperscale Operations

Wed, 8th May 2024

Stockholm-based tech powerhouse atNorth reveals its recent appointment of Jürgen Larsson to the role of Director of Hyperscale Operations. Larsson comes with two decades of profound wisdom in the data centre industry, underpinning atNorth's expansion strategy to build new data centres.

The recruitment of Larsson is integral to the data centre expansion strategy of atNorth, a Nordic colocation, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence service provider. The company is continuously innovating to meet the future demands of hyperscalers and data-driven global enterprises. The culmination of Larsson's strategic approach, industry experience, particularly at Meta, and his commitment to team engagement is expected to enhance atNorth's initiative to create a positive organisational culture and effective client relations.

Erling Gumundsson, Chief Operations Officer at atNorth, lauds Larsson's expertise, "Jürgen Larsson brings a wealth of experience in the building and management of large capacity global data centres. His ambitious and energetic nature combined with his emphasis on supportive leadership make him an excellent addition to our team."

Larsson's portfolio includes an 11-year stint at Meta, where he led the startup of high capacity data centres in Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, and Singapore coinciding with the company's global expansion. Preceding this, he held several senior positions at Swedish Telecommunications business Telia, including Head of Energy Solutions and Head of Access Networks. These roles established his expertise in energy-efficient cooling technology and digital infrastructure, marking him as an ideal candidate to strategise and execute atNorth's hyperscale plan.

"atNorth's dynamic, growth-orientated environment is reminiscent of my early years at Facebook," reflects Larsson, "The business scope to innovate and scale in this fast-growing industry is exciting and their commitment to sustainability, employee culture and client relationships gives them a highly competitive edge. I'm delighted to be part of their future journey."

atNorth's continual growth is apparent with the procurement of two data centres in Finland and the launch of a new site in Iceland in 2023. The company recently announced plans to develop three more sites located in Finland and Denmark, expected to open towards the end of 2024 and in 2025.

atNorth provides sustainable, cost-effective, scalable colocation and high-performance computing services. The acquisition of leading High-Performance Computing provider, Gompute, in 2023 enabled the company to present an enticing full stack offering tailored to AI and other critical high-performance workloads. The company's data centres run on renewable energy resources and support circular economy principles. atNorth aggressively combines innovative design, power efficiency, and intelligent operations to provide long-term infrastructure and flexible colocation deployments.

With headquarters based in Reykjavik, Iceland, atNorth operates seven strategic data centres across the Nordics. Additional sites are slated to open in Helsinki, Finland, and Denmark in the last quarter of 2024, with a tenth site in Kouvola, Finland ready for operation in 2025.
