Arch.law acquires Conexus Law to boost international reach

Tue, 11th Jun 2024

Leading legal business, arch.law, has acquired Conexus Law, a specialist firm in the data centre sector. The acquisition includes Conexus's 14-strong team based in London. This move is part of arch.law's strategy to expand its international capabilities and meet growing client demand.

Since its inception in 2020, Conexus has carved out a niche in advising businesses that operate at the convergence of the built environment, technology, and people. The firm serves a diverse range of clients, including owners, operators, funders, and end-users throughout the data centre lifecycle. Besides data centres, Conexus also advises clients in industries where built environments and technology intersect, such as transport, sports stadia, and logistics.

Ed Cooke, the Founder and Managing Partner of Conexus, is a recognised expert in critical technology infrastructure. The team also includes key members such as construction specialist Nancy Lamb and Jane Pittaway, who focuses on climate and ESG risk management and governance. The Conexus team aims to continue its mission of unlocking innovation within the built environment and the digital world.

The acquisition of Conexus Law marks the third law firm arch.law has taken over in the past two years, with previous acquisitions in both the UK and Australia. Arch.law's footprint now extends through over 100 members and nine hubs across Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, London, Australia, and Canada, establishing it as an influential player in the evolving legal marketplace.

Commenting on the acquisition, Ed Cooke stated, "This is a hugely exciting opportunity for the development of both our businesses. Our clients are very supportive, and the broader geographical reach as well as the extensive skill set that arch.law offers will bring many tangible benefits. We share a commitment to providing legal services that match the right resources with the right clients, without incurring vast overheads, creating efficiency at every level."

Cooke will remain with the business in a consultancy role while working with Nancy Lamb to transition his client base. "Nancy is an excellent operator who I know will deliver exceptional service," he added.

Andrew Leaitherland, Founder and CEO of arch.law, expressed his enthusiasm about the merger. "Having got to know Ed and the Conexus team, I am really excited about the opportunities this deal brings for both businesses as one integrated platform. It is a testament to Ed that he has built a highly regarded global brand in a short time. Conexus's credentials are second to none. The team comprises high-calibre lawyers and advisors who bring a combination of large law firm experience and in-house expertise, offering a commerciality not widely available in this space."

Upon completing the transition, Conexus will be rebranded as arch.conexus, continuing its client-focused, solution-based approach. "We are delighted to welcome Ed and the Conexus team on board and look forward to supporting them in achieving their goals and aspirations both in the UK and globally," Leaitherland concluded.
