Yondr opens new sustainable data centre in Slough campus
Yondr Group has brought the first phase of its second data centre online to its 100mw London campus in Slough.
The new facility, situated in West London within the largest data centre ecosystem in the United Kingdom, now has 10mw of its planned 30mw capacity operational. This expansion represents the latest milestone for Yondr's London campus, following the launch of its first building in summer 2024 and the commencement of work on a third, 40mw centre earlier in the year.
The Slough campus is part of Yondr's ongoing European growth, which also includes progress at its Frankfurt development. The site achieved its first ready-for-service milestone in November 2024.
The newly operational data centre has been designed according to sustainability principles consistent with Yondr's environmental, social, and governance strategy and the company's target of achieving net-zero scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 2030.
The building has achieved BREEAM 'Very Good' certification and reports an annualised power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.21, surpassing industry standards. Sustainability features incorporated into the design include solar photovoltaic panels on the roof, a green wall on the southern façade, and an operational phase horticultural management plan to support the growth and maintenance of the green spaces. The centre also offers several parking spaces equipped for electric vehicles.
Yondr took a collaborative approach to designing its London campus, working with Slough Borough Council and the Canal & River Trust across all three planned buildings. The project occupies the site of a former paint factory, requiring significant ground remediation to remove lead and other chemicals as part of the site preparation process.
The campus redevelopment includes additional local infrastructure projects, such as upgrading a nearby cycleway and installing bat and bird boxes to support local wildlife. Yondr has also initiated an apprenticeship scheme to place four apprentices at the London campus by the end of 2025.
Peter Hill, Vice President of Design & Construction EMEA at Yondr, said, "Our London campus is being delivered at pace and to a very high standard of reliability, resilience and sustainability. It fulfils our commitment to meeting our client's requirements while strengthening Slough's position as a key global hub for data centre capacity."
"Achieving the first RFS phase on the second facility marks another major milestone for our London campus, as we transform a derelict manufacturing site into a state-of-the-art data centre that will support the urgent global need for data capacity, and the UK's ambitions as a leader in digital industries."
