Virtana adds sovereign cloud support for observability

Virtana has added support for sovereign cloud operations to its observability platform, targeting organisations that need tighter control over data location and infrastructure governance.
The update extends the platform across sovereign, private, hybrid, public cloud and air-gapped environments. Users can keep operational data within approved jurisdictions while monitoring compute, storage, networking, virtualisation, Kubernetes, applications and AI infrastructure from a single system.
The announcement comes as companies in regulated sectors face growing scrutiny over how AI systems are run. Virtana cited its own research showing that nearly 40% of UK enterprises are deferring security and compliance reviews as AI factories expand, even as obligations under UK GDPR, the AI Act and sector-specific rules in financial services, healthcare and national infrastructure increase.
That pressure is driving demand for cloud systems that do more than meet data residency requirements. Organisations also need to show how services are governed, how infrastructure is operated and whether AI-supported systems perform reliably under restricted conditions.
Sovereign focus
Virtana is positioning the update for governments, defence bodies, critical infrastructure operators and heavily regulated industries. These users often work in environments where data cannot leave approved jurisdictions, connectivity is limited and some systems are isolated from external networks.
Legacy monitoring products have typically been designed for commercial cloud deployments with centralised operations and broad connectivity. In sovereign settings, that model can fall short because compliance must be demonstrated continuously and operational independence is a core requirement.
Virtana said its architecture is designed to provide continuous visibility into workload placement, policy adherence and operational governance. It added that policy-driven administration and role-based access controls are intended to support secure workflows in more restricted environments.
Research group IDC found in its Cloud Pulse Survey for the third quarter of 2025 that 93% of organisations were operating or deploying hybrid cloud infrastructure. That broader shift has increased the importance of tools that can work across public cloud, private systems, on-premises infrastructure and more isolated deployments.
AI oversight
Virtana said its platform uses system-aware agentic AI to analyse operational context rather than relying on separate layers of telemetry. The approach is intended to help identify constraints, trace root causes, recommend corrective action and maintain service continuity while keeping sovereign controls in place.
The company argues that this matters as AI use spreads through operational environments. Enterprises and public sector organisations are increasingly being asked not only where data sits, but also how AI systems operate, who is accountable for them and whether their outputs can be justified under regulatory review.
Paul Appleby, chief executive officer of Virtana, linked the launch to those broader governance demands.
"Cloud sovereignty is being reshaped by forces that extend well beyond data residency. As AI scales alongside growing enterprise complexity, organisations must demonstrate not only where data resides, but how AI systems operate, who governs them, and whether they perform reliably across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. In the UK and Europe, operational accountability has become the defining measure of cloud sovereignty," said Appleby.
Organisations using sovereign infrastructure alongside commercial cloud systems can manage both through a single platform, according to Virtana. The company added that the system is intended to identify operational risk, predict constraints and speed root cause analysis before services are affected.
Amitkumar Rathi, chief product officer at Virtana, said the usefulness of AI in operations depends on the depth of the information it can access.
"Agentic AI is only as effective as the operational context it understands. Our platform gives AI agents complete visibility across sovereign infrastructure, applications, services, and AI workloads while respecting data residency, governance, and security boundaries. This enables organizations to move from reactive operations to intelligent autonomous operations without relinquishing control," said Rathi.
