Vertiv unveils PowerDirect 7100 to boost hybrid energy for EMEA

Mon, 1st Dec 2025

Vertiv has launched a new hybrid-ready direct current (DC) power system aimed at telecom and edge operators operating across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The Vertiv PowerDirect 7100 Energy system is designed to help operators improve network reliability and transition more easily to alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, or fuel-cell power.

Energy flexibility

The PowerDirect 7100 delivers scalable power up to 52 kW with a 48 V DC output, and offers efficiency rates of up to 98%. It is designed to operate in a wide range of environments, from stable on-grid scenarios to areas with unreliable or non-existent grid connections. The system can integrate power from multiple sources, including public grid, generators, and renewables, providing continuous energy supply for critical infrastructure.

According to Vertiv, the unit includes its latest solar converters and modular rectifiers. These components manage how energy is supplied and stored, ensuring that loads receive a steady power supply regardless of fluctuations in input. The intelligent NetSure Control Unit (NCU) allows remote monitoring and advanced management of energy use, which is intended to help operators schedule and optimise energy consumption over time.

Operational resilience

The new system targets growing demand for reliable digital services as networks expand, particularly with increased 5G rollouts and higher data consumption at the network edge. It is offered in three configurations-500 A, 750 A, and 1000 A-making it suitable for a range of telecom and edge deployments. The system features a front-access design to facilitate installation and maintenance within confined spaces, such as rack environments often found in telecom facilities or edge data centres.

The PowerDirect 7100 is also engineered to tolerate a broad temperature range, operating between -40 °C and +65 °C. This is intended to ensure consistent performance even in challenging outdoor or remote environments-conditions commonly faced by telecom equipment in less-developed regions or harsh climates.

Portfolio expansion

This product forms part of Vertiv's global offering of DC power and hybrid energy solutions. It extends the firm's NetSure family and can be combined with Vertiv's thermal and IT management services. The company aims to provide customers with a more integrated approach to critical infrastructure, from energy supply to ongoing support and monitoring.

The new system is aimed at operators seeking to address both sustainability goals and operational efficiency. Power management features are designed to adapt as demands on digital infrastructure shift, such as when adding new cell sites or extending coverage into off-grid locations.

Market context

Telecom networks in many regions are under increasing pressure to reduce energy use and carbon emissions while maintaining high service reliability. Hybrid-ready systems allow network operators to incorporate more renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on diesel generators or unstable grid power. This is particularly relevant as more devices and services rely on uninterrupted connectivity, and as energy costs fluctuate significantly across geographies.

"The world expects energy efficiency and flexibility with the growth of communications, such as 5G and edge connectivity," said Dave Wilson, Director of Global Hybrid Solutions, Vertiv. "The Vertiv PowerDirect 7100 Energy gives operators a single, intelligent platform capable of adapting to any grid condition, delivering reliable power while supporting the transition to cleaner, more efficient energy strategies."
