Vertiv to create hundreds of new jobs in Derry, Donegal

Fri, 20th Feb 2026

Vertiv is expanding its manufacturing operations in Derry and County Donegal and plans to hire several hundred staff over the next six months.

The recruitment drive focuses on electrical switchgear production across three regional sites: Campsie in Derry, and Burnfoot and Letterkenny in County Donegal. The plants supply customers worldwide.

Electrical switchgear is used in power distribution and protection systems and is a standard component in data centres, communication networks and industrial facilities. Vertiv said demand for these systems is rising alongside broader investment linked to AI.

Paul Ryan, Vertiv's president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said the expansion is part of the company's wider growth plans. "This expansion represents a major vote of confidence in the skilled workforce and business environment of the Northwest region. The expansion of the facilities and creation of these roles in Derry and County Donegal will increase our manufacturing capacity and enable us to deliver critical digital infrastructure at scale and speed," he said.

The hires are intended to meet immediate operational requirements as Vertiv reports strong growth across global markets and plans to increase output from its north-west operations.

Roles and skills

Most roles will be for electricians, panel wirers, mechanical fitters and general operators, with full-time and part-time options. Vertiv also expects to recruit for manufacturing, engineering, quality assurance and support functions.

The hiring surge adds to Vertiv's manufacturing footprint, which the company said already employs more than 2,000 people across Ireland. The focus on electrical and mechanical trades points to an emphasis on shop-floor capacity and assembly throughput, supported by quality and production engineering roles.

Vertiv said it offers competitive pay and has recently enhanced its employee benefits package, but did not provide salary ranges or a breakdown by site.

Local recruitment

As part of the campaign, Vertiv will hold a walk-in interview day at the White Horse Hotel in Campsie from 9am to 5pm. It is aimed at candidates for production operator, electrician, panel wirer and mechanical fitter roles.

The drive underlines the role regional manufacturing sites play in global supply chains for data centre and network infrastructure. Switchgear production combines electrical assembly, mechanical integration and testing, and typically relies on skilled trades and structured production roles.

Vertiv's comments also point to continued investment in power and infrastructure products for data centres and network build-outs. Demand has remained elevated as operators add capacity, refresh facilities and expand to new locations. The company linked the trend to AI adoption, which has increased interest in dense compute deployments and the power and cooling systems that support them.

Vertiv is headquartered in Westerville, Ohio, and operates in more than 130 countries. Its portfolio includes power, cooling and IT infrastructure products and services used across data centres, communication networks and commercial and industrial sites.

Ryan described the north-west expansion as a long-term commitment to the area and an endorsement of the region's workforce and operating environment.
