Telehouse opens liquid cooling lab with tech partners

Today

Telehouse has announced the opening of its Liquid Cooling Lab at the London Docklands campus in collaboration with Accelsius, EkkoSense, JetCool, and Legrand.

The lab, established at the Telehouse South facility, showcases advanced liquid cooling technologies aimed at addressing the thermal challenges posed by high-performance computing and artificial intelligence workloads. This initiative forms part of Telehouse's commitment to sustainability and efficiency, offering customers access to tailored cooling solutions.

Accelsius introduces its NeuCool platform at the lab, a two-phase, direct-to-chip cooling solution using a nonconductive refrigerant, capable of dissipating an average heat flux of 250W/cm2. Additionally, it utilises the Accelsius Thermal Simulation Rack for monitoring and testing purposes, providing real-time performance data and demonstrations through a live portal.

JetCool's contribution is its SmartPlate System, a compact cooling unit that requires no modifications to existing infrastructure. Its patented microconvective technology cools components with high power demands, such as CPUs and GPUs, outperforming traditional designs by up to 30%. JetCool also offers rack-level solutions with its in-rack SmartSense Coolant Distribution Unit, scalable to 300kW per rack.

Legrand's ColdLogik RDHx is installed at the lab to support high-density computing demands with over 90kW capacity per cabinet. The system uses air-assisted liquid cooling to manage room temperature efficiently, integrating adaptive intelligence to balance temperature within the space.

EkkoSense provides AI-powered optimisation tools for the lab, deploying EkkoSim simulations and EkkoSoft Critical visualisation software. These tools aid in analysing cooling performance and managing hybrid cooling infrastructures, addressing complexities in engineering that arise from integrating new AI hardware.

Mark Pestridge, Executive Vice President & General Manager of Telehouse Europe, commented: "Our liquid cooling lab is a very exciting partnership with three of the most innovative and experienced companies in the cutting-edge field of liquid cooling technology. We are committed to providing our customers with the best solutions that meet their needs for high levels of efficiency and sustainability."

Josh Claman, CEO of Accelsius, praised the partnership with Telehouse, stating: "Partnering with Telehouse represents a significant milestone in our global expansion strategy. By showcasing our innovative cooling technology in one of the world's most significant data centre hubs, we're demonstrating our commitment to the UK market and ensuring that our cutting-edge solutions are readily accessible to potential clients across the region."

Dr Bernie Malouin, CEO of JetCool, highlighted the advantages for colocation customers, stating: "Telehouse has been a trusted partner for industries with the most demanding performance and reliability needs, including finance and telecommunications, where we already share valued customers."

James Giblette, Business Unit Director at Legrand UK & Ireland, expressed optimism about the collaboration: "This is a very promising partnership which provides us with another opportunity to demonstrate how our solutions-based, problem-solving approach helps the data centre industry move towards a more sustainable, energy-efficient future."

Dr. Stu Redshaw, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at EkkoSense, emphasised the importance of hybrid cooling approaches, stating: "given that it's not possible to run completely liquid-cooled data centres, the reality for most data centre operators is that liquid cooling and air cooling will have an important role to play in the cooling mix."

The Liquid Cooling Lab is expected to provide Telehouse clients with practical and sustainable solutions, enabling the exploration and adoption of advanced cooling technologies aligned with current and future data centre needs.
