Seagate Technology releases new Exos 24TB hard drives
Thu, 19th Oct 2023

Seagate Technology, a global expert in data storage technology and solutions, has introduced the new Seagate Exos X24 hard drives.

With ten disks delivering 2.4TB each, the Exos X24 is Seagate’s highest-density hard drive, offering pioneering total cost of ownership (TCO) for hyperscale customers and enterprises with scale-out data centres.

The conventional magnetic recording (CMR)-based 24TB Exos X24 is designed to deliver market-leading capacity, high performance, and enterprise-class reliability. Seagate also continues to offer limited cloud customers the flexibility of a shingled magnetic recording (SMR) Exos X24 configuration at a capacity of up to 28TB.

Exos X24 is purpose-built for hyperscale with powerful performance and established technology and is designed for maximum storage capacity and the highest rack-space efficiency. The new helium 3.5-inch 7200 RPM nearline drive offers both SATA and SAS interfaces and delivers enhanced caching that performs up to three times better than solutions that only utilise read or write caching.

Exos X24 also delivers increased sustained data rate (SDR) of up to 285 MB/s and power efficiency by maintaining IOPs/Watt and reliability with a 2.5M-hr mean time between failures (MTBF) rating. It offers Seagate Secure encryption technology, self-encrypting drive (SED), SED-FIPS, and instant secure erase (ISE).

Seagate’s Exos X24 qualification drives are now shipping to key customers, and production drives will be available in volume for channel distribution in December. The Exos X24 is offered with a 5-year limited warranty.

Seagate has leveraged the same underlying technology platform for its 30TB-plus hard drives based on Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology, which is on track to begin ramping production in early 2024.
