NVIDIA has announced investments in five UK startups and a USD $250 million computing commitment for agentic safety and security research in the UK. The moves deepen the company's wider push into British artificial intelligence, quantum computing and public-sector projects.

The investment plans cover Boltz, Foresight, Hiverge, Prima Mente and Riverlane, which work across drug discovery, infrastructure planning, algorithm design, biology and quantum computing. NVIDIA did not disclose the size of the individual investments.

London-based Boltz develops biomolecular models and AI agents for scientists seeking to predict molecular structures and interactions and design new medicines. Also based in London, Foresight develops software for major infrastructure projects, including hyperscale data centres, with tools designed to forecast completion dates and identify risks.

In Cambridge, Hiverge is building what it describes as an AI discovery engine that writes and improves algorithms for uses including AI training and logistics planning. Prima Mente, an AI biology company in London, is developing biological foundation models for diseases including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS. Riverlane, also based in Cambridge, develops error-correction hardware and software for quantum computing systems.

The computing commitment, spread over five years, is intended to support UK research in agentic safety and security. The package is aimed at strengthening research in an area of growing focus for policymakers, academics and companies as autonomous AI systems come into wider use.

Broader UK push

NVIDIA is also partnering with the Earthshot Prize as a Global Alliance Founding Partner, providing computing resources and technical support to groups working on climate and sustainability projects.

Alongside the investment announcements, NVIDIA outlined a broad set of UK customer and partner projects across energy, healthcare, cities, finance and quantum computing. The list shows how closely large technology suppliers are tying their UK strategy to local operators, public bodies and specialist startups.

In energy, Fuse Energy is moving customer AI systems onto in-house infrastructure built on NVIDIA B300 Blackwell Ultra chips. The setup supports customer service for more than 450,000 UK households.

Locai Labs, a sovereign AI company, has released Nemotron-Personas-UK, an open-source dataset of one million synthetic personas designed to reflect the country's demographic, regional and cultural mix. The goal is to help developers build AI systems that better represent UK users.

Healthcare projects

Healthcare featured prominently in the update. OneAdvanced is deploying what it describes as a fine-tuned large language model for primary care AI triage in the UK, built with NVIDIA software and open models, to support National Health Service patients.

Heidi has integrated NVIDIA Nemotron open models into its systems to give clinicians faster access to medical evidence. Speechmatics is deploying Oak, a multilingual medical speech-recognition model, using NVIDIA Triton Inference, with an emphasis on allowing healthcare organisations to decide where sensitive patient audio is processed.

Apian, Synnovis and NVIDIA are also working together on digital simulations for hospital robots that move laboratory samples. The work uses Cosmos to help automate logistics tasks inside hospitals. Danaher is collaborating with NVIDIA on autonomous science tools for laboratory workflows and instruments, including the use of BioNeMo open models in protein design processes.

Public sector and finance

In local government and civic technology, Liverpool City Region is building what it calls a "City Brain", based on a sovereign AI approach intended as a model for other UK authorities. Digital Jersey, Innovation City Belfast and Tees Valley Combined Authority are also exploring trusted AI computing infrastructure for public services.

Financial services is another area of activity. LSEG and NVIDIA are working on GPU-based market analytics for institutions. Revolut has been scaling PRAGMA, its foundation model for banking event sequences, after pre-training it on 26 million anonymised user histories.

Lloyds Banking Group has built ATUM, a transaction foundation model intended to turn banking transaction data into reusable AI systems. Starling is developing a banking foundation model trained on sovereign cloud infrastructure from Civo. NatWest is working with NVIDIA on Nemotron Voice to analyse how customers across the UK speak, while Modulr is deploying agent-based systems across different parts of payment operations.

Quantum focus

Quantum computing remains a notable part of NVIDIA's UK activity. Riverlane says it has shown how graphics processors can speed up decoder recalibration workflows used in quantum error correction. The work forms part of a wider collaboration on the relationship between AI, accelerated computing and future quantum systems.

NVIDIA says more than 3,100 UK companies are part of its Inception startup programme, underlining the scale of its engagement with the country's startup market.
