CirrusHQ hires Matt Smith to lead UK sales growth push drive
CirrusHQ has appointed Matt Smith as Head of Sales, adding to the Scottish cloud consultancy's senior leadership team.
Reporting to Chief Revenue Officer Stephen Croke, Smith will focus on expanding relationships with existing and prospective customers across the UK. His remit will centre on organisations seeking support with cloud adoption, security and resilience.
He joins from IGEL, where he was Regional Sales Director. Earlier in his career, he held senior sales leadership roles at CrowdStrike, Citrix and Computacenter.
The appointment follows a period of growth for the business. Over the past year, CirrusHQ has strengthened its Amazon Web Services credentials, including recognition under the AWS Managed Services Provider Program and the AWS Small and Medium Business Competency.
It was also named among Megabuyte's top 50 scale-ups in the UK and shortlisted in the Megabuyte 2026 Emerging Stars awards in the Best Performing Company in IT Consulting category.
Security focus
CirrusHQ has positioned the hire around customer demand for stronger operational resilience and security support as cyber risks and wider economic pressures continue to shape technology spending decisions.
Chief Executive Officer James Lucas said Smith's appointment reflects a growing need among organisations for clearer guidance on infrastructure and security planning.
"Over the last year, organisations have seen firsthand how a weak link in their cyber defences can devastate operations and reputation. At a time when there is so much uncertainty in the world, organisations are crying out for more resilience in their IT infrastructure and operations, not to mention a partner who will bring sound technical advice on how to bolster their ecosystems. Bringing together Matt's deep security experience alongside our extensive AWS knowledge, our customers will be able to better understand how the cloud can strengthen their security posture so that they can refocus on innovation and driving growth," said Lucas.
CirrusHQ focuses exclusively on AWS-related services, with an emphasis on cloud security, compliance and management for organisations with complex IT estates. Smith's background suggests the company is placing added emphasis on sales leadership with experience across endpoint software, cyber security and enterprise infrastructure.
That experience may prove valuable as customers weigh cloud investment against tighter budgets and a more complex threat landscape. Across sectors, businesses are under pressure to modernise systems while limiting disruption, controlling costs and addressing security concerns linked to legacy environments and new technology deployments.
Customer demands
Smith said customer resilience would be central to his agenda in the new role. He described a market in which internal technology teams are under strain from a combination of macroeconomic conditions, cyber threats and rapid change across the software market.
"IT teams are more stretched than ever. They face increasing macroeconomic pressures, as well as growing cyber threats set against a proliferation of new technologies launching at pace in the market. As a result, they want to have a partner who is on their side and can help them navigate these challenges all while de-risking transformational change and delivering positive outcomes. In joining CirrusHQ, boosting the resilience of our customers is top of my agenda and I believe that the cloud is central to that, providing a solid foundation upon which organisations can build and innovate," said Smith.
Based in Scotland, CirrusHQ describes itself as an AWS Premier Tier Services Partner. The business has built its model around advising customers on AWS, with a focus on security and compliance alongside broader cloud migration and operational support.
For CirrusHQ, the hire signals an effort to turn recent technical accreditations into broader commercial growth. For customers, it reflects continued demand for external advice as businesses look for ways to reduce risk in technology change programmes while maintaining day-to-day operations.
