Tue, 9th Sep 2025

Brightsolid has named Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Charlie Gough as Head of Cloud Solutions to support its hybrid cloud and cyber security service development.

Gough joins Brightsolid with over two decades of expertise in enterprise IT, security consulting, and cloud architecture. In his new position, he will spearhead the company's cloud and managed detection and response (MDR) service growth, prioritising closer integration with Microsoft technologies and enhancement of cloud security capabilities.

Company profile

Brightsolid operates as a managed hybrid cloud and cyber security provider, with a history spanning more than 25 years within DC Thomson. The company's client portfolio includes Aberdeenshire Council, Burness Paull, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Dundee City Council, Shell, University of Dundee, and West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Andrew Sinclair, Chief Technology Officer at Brightsolid, emphasised the significance of the appointment for the company's development objectives. He said,

"Charlie has been awarded Microsoft MVP status for three consecutive years in recognition of his consistent technical leadership and global community engagement and his appointment reflects our commitment to providing best-in-class hybrid cloud and cyber security services.

Sinclair also highlighted Gough's broad sector experience, stating,

"In addition to his extensive experience within the Managed Services Provider space, Charlie brings a wealth of knowledge across various sectors, including government, education, retail, aviation, and non-profit."

He continued by underlining the benefits Gough brings to the team.

"His knowledge of the Microsoft ecosystem and depth of experience across multiple sectors brings additional strength to our team as we continue to grow our services and support to clients."

Role priorities

Gough's appointment reflects a stated aim to expand and deepen Brightsolid's integration with Microsoft-based solutions as part of its wider offering in managed security and cloud support. The company cites growth in demand from both public and private sector clients for cloud services and robust cyber security.

In his own remarks on beginning his new role, Gough commented,

"This role brings together two of the things that matter most to me: technology and culture. I've been fortunate to work in many different environments, but Brightsolid stood out for its commitment to both technical excellence and a people-first approach. I'm excited to build on that foundation by helping evolve our Microsoft cloud and security services, mentoring the team, and ensuring customers receive the right solutions to meet their business goals."

Sector background

According to the company, Gough's background spans roles across both commercial and public sector organisations, including government, non-profit, and industry. His recognition as a Microsoft MVP over the last three years highlights his position in the wider technology community, with particular regard to technical leadership and collaboration.

The company said the appointment aligns with its ambition to further develop managed detection and response within its cyber security portfolio, tailored to the needs of a range of clients.
