AVK & Rolls-Royce see sales surge for HVO generators
AVK and Rolls-Royce have reported significant progress in meeting their net-zero commitments with record sales of HVO-powered generators in 2024.
AVK, in collaboration with the Power Systems division of Rolls-Royce, has sold over 500 HVO-powered mtu generators to the data centre sector, delivering nearly 1.3 GW of standby power capacity. This achievement further establishes AVK's position as a key player in the data centre sector, having supplied over 3.5 GW of power cumulatively.
In addition to these sales, AVK has secured orders for an extra 120 HVO-powered gensets. The generators are primarily targeted at data centres, industrial, and building sectors, demonstrating considerable market confidence in the partnership's solutions.
AVK and Rolls-Royce's efforts align with the broader industry push towards reducing carbon emissions. HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil)-powered generators can reduce net CO2 emissions by up to 90%, forming part of the solutions being adopted by businesses seeking sustainable prime power without sacrificing reliability.
Ben Pritchard, CEO of AVK, commented on the successful collaboration, "In an era where sustainability is paramount, our partnership with Rolls-Royce Power Systems sets a new standard for reliable and environmentally friendly prime power solutions. By providing businesses with access to HVO-powered generators and engineering expertise at-scale, our customers have an immediate pathway to reduce emissions while maintaining the highest levels of resiliency and power reliability and resiliency."
Vittorio Pierangeli, Vice President of Global Powergen at Rolls-Royce, reflected on the partnership's progress, "AVK and Rolls-Royce have cultivated a robust alliance to address today's energy challenges. Together, we are meeting the immediate demand for dependable power and paving the way for a more sustainable energy landscape with solutions that our customers can rely on for years to come."
The partnership also includes efforts to meet future net-zero goals through the use of hydrogen and hybrid fuel solutions. Rolls-Royce is advancing the development of engines capable of operating with a hydrogen admixture, further supporting AVK's mission to provide customers with sustainable energy options.
These initiatives by AVK and Rolls-Royce have underpinned several high-profile projects across the UK, Ireland, and Europe, including major data centre deployments and commercial real estate developments. All of these use Rolls-Royce's advanced mtu Series 2000 and 4000 Gensets powered by HVO.
