atNorth expands partnership with Advania at Iceland's ICE03 site
Nordic colocation, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing provider atNorth has announced the expansion of its partnership with Nordic IT services company Advania at its state-of-the-art ICE03 site in Iceland.
This data centre, inaugurated last year, will allow for increased capacity, thus ensuring greater security and geographical redundancy for Advania's clients. This move emphasises the importance of geographical diversification of digital infrastructure in enhancing data security and optimising performance.
Advania has been a long-standing client of atNorth, utilising their data centres in Sweden, Finland, and, more notably, the ICE01 site in Reykjavík. The expansion of their operations into the ICE03 campus underlines a strategic focus on data security, redundancy, and performance efficiency.
Hafsteinn Guðmundsson, Executive Director of IT operations and services at Advania, expressed that atNorths' ICE03 site "helps to ensure our data security". He stressed the crucial need for geographical separation of digital infrastructure for some businesses working with sensitive databases, noting, "It is now possible to achieve such separation and mirroring of data domestically by utilising two of atNorth's sites in Iceland".
CEO of atNorth, Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, expressed pride in Advania's decision to expand into atNorth's ICE03 data centre, part of a long-standing professional bond. Kristinsson valorised the ability of the ICE03 data centre to ensure "increased services where security and connectivity are insured, and carbon footprint is minimised".
The ICE03 data centre of atNorth is situated in the town of Akureyri in northern Iceland. The country's renewable energy sources and cool climate benefit the ICE03 data centre. Investments in the resilience of connective operations in the region are making Akureyri an emerging tech hub.
This news follows atNorth's recent announcement of three impactful new sites: FIN02, a 15MW site near Helsinki; FIN04, a massive 60MW construction in Kouvola, Finland, and DEN01, a 30MW location in Copenhagen, Denmark. This remarkable infrastructural growth responds directly to a notable escalation in demand for atNorth's sustainable, high-performance services.
atNorth manages an extensive portfolio of seven data centres across strategic locations in the Nordics. The enterprise plans further expansions to Helsinki and Denmark in Q4 2024, along with its tenth site ready for operation in Kouvola, Finland, slated for 2025.
Advania, in contrast, is a primary MSP provider across the Nordics and the UK. It delivers a diverse variety of managed services, enabling clients to outsource specific IT operations and services. In Iceland, it provides on-demand infrastructure and application services catering to customers across all industries.
