Wed, 10th Jul 2024

Verne has announced the appointment of Maureen Leary as Vice President of Business Development. Leary, who previously held senior positions at Amazon Web Services and Akamai, brings extensive experience in the data centre industry to her new role.

Leary will be based in London, where she will help guide the strategic direction of Verne. Her responsibilities will include identifying opportunities to expand Verne's data centre platform in Northern Europe and ensuring the company meets its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.

Nick Dale, Chief Sales Officer at Verne, expressed enthusiasm about Leary's appointment. "Maureen brings a wealth of experience to Verne, so we are delighted to welcome her to our team," he said. "Her proven track record of identifying growth opportunities for some of the largest data centre operators in the world, together with her passion for improving the sustainability and diversity within the sector, makes her the ideal person to help us achieve our expansion and ESG objectives."

Leary's career includes six years in senior business development roles at Amazon Web Services, where she was part of the data centre supply strategy team. Before AWS, Leary spent 11 years at Akamai, initially in the United States before moving to Germany as Head of Data Centre Strategy for the EMEA region. Committed to improving diversity within the workforce, Leary is also a European champion for the Women’s Tech Forum, an organisation focused on fostering a community of women and allies in cloud, networking, and data centre infrastructure industries.

Commenting on her new role, Leary said, "Verne has been a company I've followed closely throughout my career due to its leadership in sustainable innovation within the data centre industry. With the recent surge in AI, machine learning, and other high-intensity compute applications, the demand for data centre services is at an all-time high. However, it's crucial that this growth doesn't come at the expense of the environment. This is where Verne excels, and I'm eager to help the company explore new expansion opportunities that are environmentally responsible."

Verne is known for delivering sustainable data centre solutions designed to help organisations scale their digital infrastructure while minimising environmental impact. The company operates four Nordic data centres located in Iceland and Finland, all powered by 100 per cent renewable energy. These data centres are engineered for high-intensity workloads. Verne also operates a central London data centre, which is suited for latency and connectivity-sensitive applications.
