Salt Lake City data centre awarded Three Green Globes
Aligned Data Centers has announced that its data centre in the Salt Lake Metro Area has received the Green Globes for New Construction certification from the Green Building Initiative (GBI).
The SLC-03 hyperscale data centre was awarded a rating of Three Green Globes, highlighting its achievements in resource efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
Andrew Schaap, Chief Executive Officer of Aligned, commented, "We are honoured that the GBI once again has conferred Three Green Globes certification to one of our hyperscale data centres in recognition of its sustainable design and innovative technologies that significantly improve energy and water efficiency.
"Sustainability is not static, but a dynamic process that continues for the lifetime of a facility," he said.
"As the surge in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing gives rise to greater data centre demand, our teams are committed to remaining vigilant in managing the planet's resources for the benefit of our customers, employees, investors and communities," Schaap said.
The data centre is one of four completed by the company in the Salt Lake City Metro Area. The GBI's assessment praised Aligned for an integrated design approach, acknowledging a commitment to sustainability at every stage of the project.
Vicki Worden, President & Chief Executive Officer of GBI, stated, "Aligned continues to demonstrate sustainable design excellence, leadership, and accountability with Green Globes certification.
"GBI is proud to support Aligned's commitment. It is one that is radiating through the industry to design, deliver, and occupy sustainable and resilient data centres," she said.
The Green Globes certification also recognised Aligned's patented Delta3 air cooling technology. This system, alongside a waterless heat rejection system, provides a scalable and efficient environment adaptable to varying IT loads, reducing water usage and infrastructure costs.
Aligned's cooling systems, which include Delta3 air cooling and DeltaFlow thermal technologies, allow for a shift from air-cooled to liquid-cooled systems. Hybrid systems can also be deployed within the same data hall.
The Green Globes assessment noted the installation of sound isolation devices and insulated ductwork in the HVAC and plumbing systems at SLC-03, aiming to minimise acoustic issues and enhance the well-being of occupants.
The Green Building Initiative, established in 2004, is a non-profit organisation committed to enhancing the impact of the built environment on climate and society.
The Green Globes certification involves a comprehensive evaluation of various environmental factors, including project management, site considerations, energy use, water management, resource utilisation, emissions, and indoor environment quality.
