Rubix Data Centres appoints Josh Joshi as Chairman

Rubix Data Centres has appointed Josh Joshi as Chairman, adding a senior data centre executive to the leadership of the London-headquartered company.

Joshi joins as Rubix builds an initial global portfolio of more than 8GW across the Americas, EMEA and APAC. Launched in June as part of Submer Group, Rubix focuses on developing and operating AI data centre campuses.

He brings nearly three decades of experience in digital infrastructure. Most recently, Joshi served as Chairman of AtlasEdge, a pan-European edge data centre platform, and as an Operating Partner at DigitalBridge, the digital infrastructure-focused asset manager.

Earlier in his career, he spent more than a decade as Chief Financial Officer of Interxion, helping expand the business before its acquisition by Digital Realty. He also served as Chief Financial Officer of Telecity Group and co-founded Storm Telecommunications, a voice, data and network services provider operating in Europe and the US.

Rubix is one of the newer businesses within Submer Group, which has been building out companies across the AI infrastructure market. The wider group says it has deployed more than 500MW of liquid-cooled infrastructure and holds more than 8GW of powered land across the Americas, EMEA and APAC.

Rubix will develop and operate AI data centre campuses for hyperscale users, covering site origination, community engagement, delivery and ongoing operations. The business follows the launch of Submer's AI cloud arm, InferX, late last year.

Industry role

The hire comes as data centre operators and developers race to expand capacity for AI workloads, which are increasing demands on land, grid access and cooling systems. Rubix says its model combines engineering, modular design and development delivery to support rapid deployment of new sites.

Joshi said AI growth was changing how governments and companies view the sector. "Over three decades, I've watched digital infrastructure evolve from a niche industry into critical national infrastructure. AI represents the next great inflection point: data centers are no longer simply part of the plumbing of the digital economy; they are strategic assets for nations, businesses, and society. Leadership build-out

The appointment is part of a broader effort to assemble senior leadership as Rubix moves from launch into project development and operations. The company is positioning itself around large-scale AI data centre campuses at a time when competition for suitable sites and power access is intensifying in several markets.

Joshi holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and was a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He also serves as an independent council member of City St George's University of London.
