Google to open $34m data centre in Taiwan?

According to a report in The DigiTimes, the internet search giant Google is looking at investing US$34 million to open a data center in central Taiwan.

Google has been rumoured to be scouting sites in Taiwan since 2008.

The US$34 million investment is tipped to be used to acquire a 15-hectare site in a government-developed industrial park to open a regional cloud computing data center.

The industrial park is said to be located in a coastal area of central Taiwan.

According to the report, Google's PR representatives in Taiwan declined to comment.
