Emerson launches DeltaV platform for AI data centres

Emerson has launched its DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centres, aimed at data centres being built for artificial intelligence workloads.

The platform brings monitoring and control of critical infrastructure into a single automation layer spanning thermal, mechanical and electrical systems. It is intended to replace separate point solutions and manual coordination with an integrated architecture from the design stage onward.

Data centre operators are under pressure to bring large facilities online faster as AI demand increases computing needs and adds complexity to power and cooling systems. Emerson is targeting projects that need tighter coordination across infrastructure and faster commissioning.

The DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centres is based on Emerson's existing DeltaV Distributed Control System and DeltaV Programmable Logic Controllers. Together, those products provide facility-wide process control and include embedded AI tools for engineering workflows, process control and integration with AI optimisation models.

Emerson says the platform is designed to improve delivery schedules by separating hardware and software work so teams can run tasks in parallel. It says standardised control at both equipment and facility level can reduce engineering effort and simplify integration during commissioning, operations and maintenance.

Unified control

A central part of the launch is a unified monitoring and control layer across critical infrastructure. Emerson says this approach enables real-time responses to changes in power demand and cooling load, which are becoming more volatile as AI data centres scale up.

The platform is also designed to give operators earlier visibility into abnormal conditions, helping them respond faster and maintain round-the-clock operations. The emphasis reflects a wider industry focus on uptime as facilities grow larger and more energy intensive.

Nathan Pettus, President of Emerson's Process Systems and Solutions business, framed the product around system-level coordination rather than individual equipment.

"Data centre performance is no longer defined by individual components alone, but by how effectively critical systems work together," said Pettus. "The DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centres gives operators the unified visibility and coordinated control they need to commission projects predictably, operate reliably at scale and meet aggressive timelines. It's the foundation that turns speed into sustainable competitive advantage."

Project pressure

Suppliers to the data centre sector have been adapting their offerings as customers move toward larger campuses and denser compute infrastructure. The shift has increased demands on engineering teams, electrical systems, cooling design and project schedules, especially where operators are trying to support AI training and inference at scale.

Emerson says its latest platform is intended to address those pressures through repeatable designs and a standardised operating model across multiple sites and geographies. It also points to its experience on large industrial projects as a way to help customers reduce execution risk and shorten delivery times.

The launch shows how industrial automation groups are seeking a larger role in digital infrastructure by applying control technologies developed for process industries to data centres. Emerson is presenting data centre operations as an automation challenge that can be managed through integrated controls rather than separate building, cooling and electrical systems.

AI features

Emerson says AI functions are built into the DeltaV platform to provide context-specific insights and support more autonomous operations over time. The tools are intended to simplify complex control tasks and direct information to the relevant operators and engineers.

That positioning places the offering beyond basic building management, into a broader push for software-led oversight of facility operations. Emerson says the system can support continuous intelligence across a facility, with the longer-term aim of helping operators manage expansion and lifecycle performance.

Pettus said existing piecemeal approaches are becoming harder to justify as AI data centres push infrastructure to larger scales.

"AI data centres are pushing at the very limits of scale, speed and complexity, exposing the limitations of piecemeal automation architectures," said Pettus. "The DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centres is built on intelligent, unified automation architectures instead of isolated systems to provide the flexibility not only to quickly reach first token, but also help data centres stay competitive, secure and relevant across the lifecycle of operation."
