Colt DCS initiates third data centre in Frankfurt amid escalating demand
Fri, 24th Nov 2023

Colt Data Centre Services (DCS), a player in the provision of hyperscale and large enterprise data centre solutions, has announced the expansion of its operations in Germany by initiating the construction of its third state-of-the-art data centre in Frankfurt. This development is a clear indication of Colt DCS's investment commitment to the Frankfurt market, a response to escalating customer demand, the company states.

This new hyperscale data centre, specifically designed for a leading Cloud Service Provider, assumes a strategic location near the existing Colt DCS Frankfurt Data Centre. Thereby, it allows seamless connectivity to the Rhine-Main region while also providing convenient access to Frankfurt's primary financial district.

Once completed, it promises to offer 32.4MW of IT power capacity, sourced solely from renewable energy, which will significantly enhance data storage capabilities and scalability for the tenant's IT infrastructure.

Besides its prime location, the new Frankfurt data centre offers direct, uninterrupted access to DE-CIX, one of the largest internet exchange points globally, connecting with multiple dark fibre providers.

The data centre's design ensures it retains the status of being cloud, carrier, and IX neutral, merging several points of entry and alternative carrier routing to guarantee zero service disruptions.

The key tenet propelling Colt DCS's growth is its commitment to sustainable scalability. The company has demonstrated this across its 16 sophisticated data centre developments, sourcing 100% renewable energy for its entire European estate, thereby providing robust, environmentally friendly power to its new hyperscale Tier-3 data centre.

Once operational, the facility will guarantee 24/7 local language customer support and is expected to achieve ISO 27001 certification post-phase delivery.

Richard Wellbrock, Vice President of Real Estate at Colt DCS, highlights the company's understanding of providing necessary data storage and scalability to digital businesses in Germany, enabling them to serve their customers optimally.

"Germany's robust digital infrastructure, supported by a dependable power grid and sophisticated telecommunications network, reinforces our commitment to delivering unparalleled services in the market. Colt DCS remains steadfast in its mission to develop strategically located data centre sites that cater to our customers' needs, establishing us as the industry's most trusted and customer-centric data centre operator," says Wellbrock.

With the future in perspective, Colt DCS’ design of all newly constructed data centres includes provisions for accommodating liquid cooling and high-density rack layouts, with the flexibility to deliver hybrid solutions (air and/or liquid cooling) contingent on the customer's use case. This forward-looking approach underlines the company’s commitment to sustainability and its innovative response to the evolving demands of the rapidly flourishing digital realm, the company states.
