Seagate expands Lyve Cloud with new London data centre

Fri, 7th Jun 2024

Seagate, the provider of mass-capacity storage solutions, has announced the expansion of its Lyve Cloud S3 compatible object storage service with the addition of a second data centre in London. This move seeks to support the growing local customer base by providing easier access to Lyve Cloud and an extensive portfolio of edge-to-cloud solutions, including secure mass data transfer and cloud import services.

Situated in London, the new data centre leverages Seagate's Exos enterprise data storage systems alongside breakthrough technologies. This combination is designed to deliver industry-leading total cost of ownership (TCO), scalability, and sustainability. The S3-compatible object storage service dovetails with existing cloud environments, offering a straightforward storage solution free from hefty API fees, egress charges, or prolonged object retention fees. When integrated with Seagate's on-premises storage system products, Lyve Cloud supports hybrid storage needs, providing enhanced value for customers balancing on-site and cloud storage requirements.

Simultaneously, Seagate has extended its UK Lyve Cloud channel through a fresh distribution agreement with Climb Channel Solutions and a long-term collaboration with Exertis. These partnerships aim to offer a comprehensive range of advanced cloud and on-premises storage solutions to UK resellers and solution providers.

Melyssa Banda, Vice President of Systems and Services at Seagate, commented, "In today’s data-driven world, many companies are still unable to tap into the full potential of their data and unlock its business value. The channel community plays a crucial role in addressing our clients’ data challenges. We’re excited to offer on-premises storage systems and Lyve services to solution providers, enriching their portfolio of advanced cloud services. Our recent partnerships with leading regional channel distribution partners like Climb Channel Solutions and Exertis will enhance availability and support infrastructure for UK resellers and solution providers."

Seagate believes that Lyve Cloud, bolstered by these strategic channel partnerships, will enable UK customers to overcome traditional data management limitations. The service aims to provide versatile cloud, hybrid, and on-premises solutions to fully harness the potential of their data.

The expanded infrastructure in London underscores Seagate’s commitment to addressing the needs of its UK clientele. By providing closer proximity to data storage resources, the new data centre aims to reduce latency and improve access, making data storage and management more efficient for businesses. This approach aligns with Seagate’s broader strategy to enhance data storage solutions on a global scale, ensuring customers have the tools necessary to handle modern data challenges.

Seagate Technology states the company creates technology so users can confidently store data and unlock its value. Founded more than 45 years ago, Seagate has shipped over four billion terabytes of data capacity and offers a full portfolio of storage devices, systems, and services from edge to cloud.
