Rubrik expands cyber recovery to support Nutanix AHV
Rubrik has announced the expansion of its Cyber Recovery capabilities to include support for Nutanix AHV, a virtualization platform utilised for both virtual machines and containers across on-premises and cloud environments. This move aims to bolster the security and incident response capabilities for users operating within these virtualised infrastructures.
The integration of Rubrik Cyber Recovery with Nutanix AHV is intended to enable users to regularly test and validate their recovery plans in isolated "clean rooms" and facilitate faster forensic investigations. This development follows findings from the Rubrik Zero Labs report, which indicated that a significant 83% of encrypted data handled by Rubrik resides within virtualised architectures like Nutanix.
Nutanix AHV, renowned for its security features such as automated threat detection, role-based access control, lifecycle management, and microsegmentation, is enhanced further by this partnership. Rubrik Cyber Recovery provides an added layer of protection, encouraging a "defence in depth" approach for heightened cyber resilience.
Lee Caswell, Senior Vice President of Product and Solutions Marketing at Nutanix, commented on the development: "As both the hypervisor and cybersecurity markets continue to rapidly evolve, organisations are seeking the most secure and intelligent virtualisation solutions to store their critical business data and mitigate risk in the face of cyberattacks and unexpected downtime." He added that Nutanix AHV, as a distributed system designed for the hybrid cloud, offers ease of use with comprehensive security, and Rubrik Cyber Recovery enhances this by ensuring organisations can face complex enterprise IT challenges more effectively.
Among the key benefits highlighted, Rubrik Cyber Recovery for Nutanix AHV allows for the creation of predefined recovery plans, which can be automated to ensure recovery processes maintain their necessary dependencies and prerequisites. This orchestration includes the identification of optimal point-in-time snapshots to facilitate a rapid recovery of business operations. Additionally, it enhances forensic investigations by providing insight into suspicious activities, which helps in identifying suitable recovery points more swiftly.
Anneka Gupta, Chief Product Officer at Rubrik, emphasised the removal of previous obstacles in cyber recovery operations by stating, "Identifying the right snapshot for cyber recovery has historically been a cumbersome and manual process. As a result, cyber recovery testing is rarely done, if at all — which can lead to a world of stress during a cyberattack." Gupta pointed out that with Rubrik's threat analytics pinpointing suitable recovery points and cloning data into secure, isolated environments, this new capability for Nutanix AHV provides added security to data in virtualised settings.
