Powercube partners to create AI-ready modular data centres

Fri, 22nd Nov 2024

Powercube has announced a partnership with leading technology firms to develop AI-ready containerised modular data centres equipped with advanced cooling solutions.

Powercube aims to address the increasing demand for high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure required by AI and machine learning (ML) applications, which necessitate substantial processing power and generate significant heat. The partnership focuses on delivering energy-efficient, scalable, and environmentally sustainable data centre solutions.

Russ Bartley of Powercube stated, "AI workloads are not just demanding on processing power; they place an immense burden on cooling systems as well. Traditional air-cooled solutions are no longer sufficient for the high-density compute environments required for AI. By collaborating with the best-in-breed companies in Direct Liquid Cooling and Immersive Cooling, we offer flexible, scalable solutions that meet the growing need for AI-Ready HPC environments that are both sustainable and efficient. This partnership positions Powercube at the forefront of next-generation data centre solutions."

The integration of Direct Liquid Cooling and Immersive Cooling technologies is designed to enhance thermal management, which is essential for AI and HPC environments.

Direct Liquid Cooling circulates non-conductive liquids directly over components like CPUs and GPUs, effectively drawing away heat and preventing performance issues. In comparison, Immersive Cooling submerges server components in a conductive liquid bath, offering superior heat dissipation and reduced energy consumption.

These technologies bring several advantages, including improved efficiency due to higher heat transfer rates compared to air cooling, support for higher rack densities which allows for increased computational power per square foot, sustainability through reduced reliance on energy-intensive air conditioning, and cost-effective scalability facilitated by the modular nature of Powercube's systems.

The partnership leverages the expertise of firms specialising in thermal management and proven technologies in demanding HPC environments.

Powercube's modular data centres are equipped with these advanced cooling technologies and are available in 500kW, 1MW, and 2MW configurations, suiting enterprises transitioning to AI-driven operations.

The strategic collaborations aim to satisfy the urgent needs for AI-ready infrastructure, with a focus on operational savings and enhanced system reliability, supporting a range of high-performance applications.
