maincubes signs 10-year solar power agreement, bolstering sustainability
European data centre owner and operator, maincubes, has announced a significant stride towards achieving its sustainability goals. The company, which offers colocation solutions for cloud service providers, the public sector, global enterprises, and hyperscalers, has signed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Stadtwerke Göttingen AG. The agreement is for pure solar power up to 34 megawatts peak (MWp), slated to power maincubes' FRA03 data centre.
Notably, this PPA is maincubes' first, positioning it as a significant step in their pursuit of sustainable energy. The agreements with Stadtwerke Göttingen AG, a respected firm in the energy sector, speaks volumes about maincubes' commitment to dependable and flexible solutions that meet clients' sustainability requirements.
Expressing his sentiments over the milestone, Albrecht Kraas, CTO at maincubes, stated, "This first PPA contract is a milestone that we are proud of. We are setting the framework for future sustainability standards and further optimizing an environmentally friendly energy supply for our data centres."
As part of its broader blueprint for sustainability, maincubes holds an EMAS registration (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). This certification enables the company to showcase its environmental commitment with transparency. Also, its agile digital infrastructure aligns perfectly with customers' ESG requirements.
On the other hand, The PPA agreement allows Stadtwerke Göttingen AG to secure economic stability for future substantial investments in renewable energy. This strategic decision will foster the achievement of climate targets within the Göttingen region. "The conclusion of the PPA agreement with maincubes gives Stadtwerke Göttingen AG the economic security for further major investments in renewable energies," said Jochen Ritter, Head of Energy Services and Heating at Stadtwerke Göttingen AG.
Sustainability is a central component in maincubes operations. This commitment is evident in the company's use of hydropower in the Netherlands, building of wind turbines in India, and active participation in the Open Compute Foundation (OCP). This network, consisting of data centre operators, telecommunications, and server providers, is committed to promoting innovative and increasingly sustainable products.
The PPA agreement between maincubes and Stadtwerke Göttingen AG is therefore more than a business deal. It underscores maincubes commitment towards a sustainable future, a commitment that extends beyond its immediate operations to create a ripple effect in the global pursuit of renewable energy and environmental conservation.
