Maincubes enjoys substantial growth & expansion in 2023
Mon, 26th Feb 2024

maincubes, a notable European data centre owner and operator, experienced significant business growth in 2023. The company provides colocation solutions for numerous sectors, including cloud service providers, the public sector, global enterprises, and hyperscalers. This significant expansion was backed by new funding, additional data centre space, and a 60% increase in new staff, indicating exciting advancements for the firm in 2024.

Oliver Menzel, CEO of maincubes, commented on their trajectory: "With consistent growth throughout 2023, maincubes paved the road for innovation in 2024. This year, we will address the significant growth in AI/ML providing companies the capacity, cooling and density needed to sustainably operate. Our innovation around this need will drive deeper offerings from maincubes throughout the year."

maincubes achieved several key milestones which contributed to its successful growth. The company secured a €1.035 billion finance facility, utilised for expanding its data centre portfolio and constructing three new state-of-the-art facilities in Berlin and Frankfurt. Furthermore, its latest BER01 data centre, specifically designed to suit its tenants' needs, is currently under construction. Renting the space is the central IT service provider for the German Federal Administration, Informationstechnikzentrum Bund (ITZBund), reaffirming maincubes' market credibility.

A key part of maincubes' growth strategy was strengthening its leadership team. Arne Weber was appointed Chief Financial Officer, bolstering the team for the next growth phase. Additionally, Zahl Limbuwala was added as Executive Chairman of maincubes Advisory Board, a move that further solidified its market position and helped to establish maincubes as a leading platform for data centre services in Europe.

Highlighting their focus on broader growth plans, Digital Transformation Capital Partners became the majority shareholder of maincubes. This move significantly accelerates maincubes' proposed expansion endeavours with robust support. In addition, the FRA03 Frankfurt data centre was made available with 16MW of power.

Moreover, maincubes launched an ambitious sustainability plan, aligned with the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), and achieved ESG certifications. They also provided their first sustainability report, demonstrating their commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable data centre operations.

Menzel affirmed the importance of their teams and clients in 2023's success: "Our team's drive and dedication to our clients were critical to our growth and success in 2023. Last year's funding and expansion efforts validate our commitment to client-driven innovation. We've already kicked off 2024 with our FRA04 Frankfurt expansion with available power - reinforcing Germany as a great place for data centre support. Whatever the deployment size, whether it is for large-scale hyperscale to support AI/ML or smaller ones for enterprises, maincubes is built to handle it."
